Where is Korphe located in Pakistan?
Korphe is a small village who’s primary occupation is farming. It is situated in the North-east region of Pakistan and is at the base of the mountain range Karakoram. The river Braldu is of importance here since Korphe is located on the river bank. Korphe was brought to the attention of the world with the remarkable efforts of a few people who have worked extensively for the benefit of the people of this village.
However the village of Korphe had plenty to deal with. It was not able to deal with the death rate amongst infants. The women and the children suffered from acute malnutrition. The literacy rate is also abysmally poor. Despite the existing problems, the children there are very eager to seek the help of education. Schools were built with the help of the locals and a bridge was constructed to enable supplies to reach the village across the river Braldu. The people of Korphe value relationships. They believe in building and nourishing it with time.

How absolutely incredible that you do not mention the work of Greg Mortenson and the Central Asia Institute who are responsible for the schools being built in the Northeastern part of Pakistan and Afghanistan. While the U.S. has poured billions of dollars in Pakistan and Afghanistan to no avail, Mortenson has realized the importance of working directly with the people of these countries and his CAI is one of the few NGOs that has made a difference in this bleak area of the two countries. I suggest you read “Three cups of Tea” and “Stones into Schools” authored by Mortenson. The work of this gentleman and the CAI is remarkable.

I AM CURRENTLY READING THREE CUPS OF TEA AND I AM AMAZED AND HIGHLY IMPRESSED WITH THE WORK OF GREG MORTENSON AND THE MAN WHO DONATED THE MONEY FOR THE FIRST SCHOOL AND TOWARDS THE CENTRAL ASIA INSTITUTE. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO THE READERS ATTENTION.

I agree with Barbara. I am reading Three Cups of Tea and find the work that Greg has done there amazing. If we could get as much bang for the buck from our government donations, we could literally change the world, one village at a time! The lesson to be learned is that governments are not good stewards of money.

I am currently reading “Three Cups of Tea” at the urgings of my mother who was so taken by Greg Mortenson’s story and works that she has opened up her checkbook in support of his good deeds in a part of the world that appears to hold Americans in such low esteem. Can’t wait to launch into “Stones into Schools”

Barbara Munger -> i wonder who has written this piece about Korphe but talking about Korphe is totally incomplete without mentioning the incredible efforts of Mr Greg Mortenson. No Muslim or Pakistani could have or has done the work that this American has done for Pakistani people.
Mr Mortenson is a true American by all means be it honesty, be it kindness, be it humanity or be it sincerity.
