What does it mean to be mentally healthy?
To define mental health is a little difficult since it is subjective and cannot be measured accurately. Perhaps the presence of any mental illness is an easy method of knowing that one is not mentally healthy. However, even in the absence of any illness, the level of mental health can be higher in one person than in another. One can define mental health based on some characteristics present in a person.
The ability to make the most out of life or simply to enjoy all that one has in life leads to a good mental health. One must capable of facing challenges and difficulties in one’s life without succumbing to them. Spending time all by oneself or in the company of others, one must be able to do it at ease and have a good mix of both. Any extreme behavior shown in either leads to disorders. An open mind that can accept and respect the viewpoints of others even if they are different from one’s own is essential to being mentally healthy. If not, it might lead to a lot of stress in one’s life and face the risk of being isolated by everyone. An ability to like oneself and improve on one’s shortcomings is also one facet of being mentally healthy. The most important thing is to be aware of any disorders and seek help to find a remedy.
