The Ohio River flows through the city of Cairo in Illinois. It flows through 6 states and has many tributaries. It is a tributary of the river Mississippi. It is used for trading purposes and also to transport people and goods. It also signifies the separation of states that indulged in slave trade and those propagated banning of the same. Many slaves used it to seek escape.
The Ohio River is not very deep and so its height iso be raised with the help of dams to facilitate the movement of commercial ships that need deeper waters. Its depth varies from a low of about six meters at its mouth to a high of more than fifty meters. The Ohio River has been of importance to the people of America from the time when the natives lived there till today. The European empires staked claim to this river for its benefits.
