How long does the flu last?

Flu is the common name given to Influenza which is an illness that is contagious and is caused by a virus. It affects the respiratory system and the person who has caught the virus experiences body aches and a high temperature. The severity depends on the person and so, the time to recover also varies from one to another.

Flu can have as short an effect as 24hrs or can have a grip on the person for as long as 10 days. However the affected person will start felling a lot better midway through the illness. The virus is transmitted through contact with the person or by coming in contact with the infected area. Since the illness is infectious, the person can be infected much before the illness begins to show up or the person experiences any effects. However children and the old, whose immunity is either not well developed or is breaking down can be infected for longer. The symptoms such as the pains and high temperature will also be more pronounced in these age groups. Those who take adequate care of their body by means of nutrition, exercise and are mentally healthy will also be less prone to catching the virus. Hence the probability of being infected and the severity varies quite a bit.
