Located in southeastern New York, United States, just east of Manhattan, Long Island is the longest and the biggest island among the 48 contiguous United States. Long Island has four counties: Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau and Suffolk.

Its length is about 190km (118 miles) and width about 37km (23 miles), and with a land area of 3,629 km2 (1,401 square miles) it is the 11th largest island in United States. Another interesting fact is that Long Island has about 7.500.000 inhabitants and it is the most populated island in any U.S. territory.

There are nine bridges and 13 tunnels which connect Long Island and New York. One of the biggest and the most famous bridge is definitely the Brooklyn Bridge. Completed in 1883, it became the first land-transport route between Long Island and mainland U.S.A.

There are two of New York City’s major airports located on Long Island, in Queens (La Guardia and JFK).

Long Island offers the good life, a lot of excitement, glamour, but also solitude. The quiet waters of Long Island on the north and the Atlantic Ocean on the south are combination which is hardly resistible.
